An Apprenticeship is a real job with training so you can earn while you learn. Apprenticeships are a combination of on and off the job learning, incorporating both work-based training (designed around the needs of employers) and nationally recognised qualifications.
The conduct of Apprenticeships is governed by the “Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009”, and the “Specification of Apprenticeship Standards in England (SASE)”, and provides an opportunity for staff to be developed within the work environment they are employed in with the support of both a Training Provider and their employer.
An Apprenticeship is a framework of different components which all need to be completed to fully achieve the programme.
An Apprenticeship can be used to train both new and existing employees with a significant training need, and last for at least 1 year.
Apprenticeships have been designed by the Sector Skills Councils (part of the Skills for Business network), and are regulated by the National Apprenticeship Service.
Apprenticeships are a great way to earn while you learn and prepare yourself for a brilliant career.
Progress in your career: surveys show that employers recognise and value apprenticeships so with hard work you could rise through the ranks quickly.
Achieve sought-after qualifications: apprenticeships are the gold standard for work-based learning.
Learn job-specific skills: learn from knowledgeable tutors and work alongside experienced staff to gain in-demand skills.
Top quality training: get on-the-job experience and off-the-job training.
Employers really value apprenticeships. They know if you’ve got one that you’ll have the skills they need, and, as a result your career could progress rapidly.
From then on, your next move is up to you. You can collect UCAS points, study for Technical Certificates, go on to higher education at college or university, or work towards promotion.
Depending on your current skills and qualifications, the levels of apprenticeship you can apply for are:
- Intermediate level apprenticeship (level 2)
- Advanced level apprenticeship (level 3)
